Although it’s been an anticlimactic winter, it’s still good to get out and enjoy the changing of the seasons.
There’s nothing like getting out on a brisk spring morning. Last Saturday my daughter Rebecca, our friend Jared and I met up with Cody Hatch and two of his kids for an early morning drive around the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge near Brigham City, Utah. The refuge was teaming with noisy activity. Most notable were the hundreds of American White Pelicans in the south bay. There was something to see, hear or in some cases smell (skunk) in every direction.
I handed  my EOS 20D and 70-200mm over to Rebecca and Jared to try out. They had a great time shooting almost anything that moved and got some great pictures. Besides the pelicans, we saw several herons, cormorants, swans, grebes, avocets, dozens of Canada geese, and flocks of yellow-head blackbirds. Not all were close enough to photograph, but we had plenty to choose from. Cody’s son even found a few garter snakes to make his sister squeal. All-in-all it was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
